“And so it was some motley crew who found it in the night, one of them a lunatic told me of his plight. One dived to the left of him, two went to the right. But he remained- he said he saw, he said he saw the light. And it was magic fountain, magic fountain.”
Innnnn the beginninggggg! I was not expecting to discover the love for a new band this year at NXNE. I arrived at Dundas Square with my family in TO and heard some crazy and energetic music coming from the stage. The next thing I saw- three men playing instruments, singing and dancing, all while wearing silver spacesuits. At first, completely intrigued with everything, I was wondering what was going on. But after listening to the first two songs they played, I began to tap my feet to the beat. The techno beats with showings of pop chords completely drew the audience in, including me. Within minutes I was singing along with the band and others gathered together at Dundas Square, yelling “PARLEZ VOUS FRANCAIS?!” The enthusiastic vibe the band gave everyone was surreal. Then, Art vs Science began to play Magic Fountain…This was one of the most abstract, captivating and catchy songs I’ve heard in a while.
Listening to the fitting robotic backing vocals and echoing “magic, magic, magic fountain”, I really wanted this whole album! Luckily, they came out after their show and met all their fans, which was such a hospitable thing to do. We ended up meeting them and bought their self-titled album which came on a USB, due to CDs being quite expensive to ship all the way from Australia! Since the show, not only I, but my whole family have been blasting this great Art vs Science album. It was a magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, magic, MAGIC FOUNTAIN!
