Lyric of the Day: “Tongue Tied”

Tongue Tied by Grouplove

“Take me to your best friend’s house, roll around this roundabout, oh yeah. Take me to your best friend’s house, I loved you then and I love you now.”

There’s always a song that randomly comes on and makes you feel great. When it does you look over at your friends, and all begin nodding or get excited to be enthralled  by the music. The MGMT/Time to Pretend of the year, if that makes more sense! Well, I’ve had this type of song since it was released back in September which always takes friends and I on an amazing journey anytime it’s played.

As soon as the strumming begins in Tongue Tied by Grouplove, a feel-good vibe is spread amongst everyone. There’s really a joyous tone to the song which elevates as it goes through lively “whooooos!” and multiple singers in the verse. Then there’s also the thumping bassline which keeps dance moves on track.

The section of the song which is fantastic would have to be that middle-eight. I’ll admit, it had to grow on me at first but now whenever Tongue Tied is played, I anticipate it every time. The soft, mysterious and intriguing voice of Hannah Hooper sums up the lovely story of the song, singing “my eyes on your eyes, like Peter Pan up in the sky. My best friend’s house tonight, let’s bump the beats till beddy-bye.”

It’s a song that will make you want to scream your lungs out with lead vocalist Christian Zucconi as he lets his love go in the outro of the song. Although it’s 3 minutes and 40 seconds, the song is so thrilling it feels shorter and makes you want to play it again. Write below, what’s your feel good-song? Don’t have one yet?
