With an upcoming show October 13th at Toronto’s Kool Haus, I anxiously awaited the release of Beach House’s Bloom. After being hooked on Teen Dream and having played my CD so many times it skips, my standards were set high for the next batch of songs. Thankfully the album in no way disappointed, and selecting one song to share was quite difficult.
Although loaded with amazingly entrancing tracks, I settled on what I feel to be the most powerfully moving, eerie, and impressionable. Troublemaker is track 6 out of 10, and hits you once you’ve already entered into a dazed, trance-like state. As if placed strategically to awaken you, it hits hard musically, vocally, and lyrically. Playing with the idea of memory, suppression, and trauma, this song stirs and evokes. Looking to feel, hear, and powerfully imagine? Then you’ve GOT to hear this.
