PEACE are delivering some pretty clever and catchy tunes out of Birmingham, England. Their EP Delicious was recently released, and from my first listen of their killer track California Daze, I haven’t stopped listening. We caught up with the band to talk a little about their EP, touring, favourite bands and a few other interesting things worth taking a read!
AMBY: For those who haven’t heard of you, how would you describe your sound?
PEACE: Sweet, Dark, Shaky, Sexy?
AMBY: Your spectacular EP Delicious is out now, is there an album in the works?
PEACE: I can’t say anything (yes).
AMBY: Your EP cover always makes us crave a big slice of watermelon, so what’s the story behind it?
PEACE: The way I remember it is that I was on my way to a house party & picked up a watermelon to hollow out & drink from. I later said to a girl that I loved watermelon so much I was going to put it on a record cover. I’m a man of my word. Since then the girl has claimed it was all her idea..
AMBY: I’m not sure if it’s intentional, but I hear tons of Beatle-esque instrumentation in your track California Daze. Was that on purpose or do those harmonies simply come naturally? It’s gorgeous!
PEACE: Thank you. It all came really naturally. The Beatles are a band we’ve all been exposed to from a young age so I guess a bit might’ve crept through in that song. Who knows?
AMBY: We had the great chance of meeting the guys in Toronto, so I have to ask, what was touring with Mystery Jets like?
PEACE: It was great. We all love those guys. We had a really great time & they’ve kind of ended up like big brothers who we look up to. They party harder than us & get more chicks than us but we’re learning slowly.
AMBY: On the topic of touring, if you could tour anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
PEACE: I don’t know. America? Asia? Australia? Japan? Europe is always fun. I guess the whole world. It isn’t that big is it?
AMBY: What’s the best song of 2012 so far?
PEACE: Spector- Friday Night, Don’t Ever Let It End
AMBY: Who are some of PEACE’s influences?
PEACE: I think we’re influenced by everything that’s happened musically 1960 – 1997 & Moby.
AMBY: What trend in music do you find the most annoying?
PEACE: I don’t really get annoyed by music. Trends happen and it’s kinda weird/cool to think about how/why. It’s usually just like names though. I think the next trend will be flutes. Has that been a thing yet?
AMBY: Who are some of your favourite bands at the moment?
PEACE: I’m really into all our friends’ bands, Swim Deep, Spector, O Children, Splashh, Mystery Jets. Also RHCP
AMBY: What do you do outside of music for fun?
PEACE: I like to go to clubs that play House & Techno. Sometimes it’s nice to escape band stuff. Mind you that’s still music. I watched 3 episodes of the O.C yesterday…
AMBY: Lastly, tell me something about the band that no one knows yet!
PEACE: Ok.. For our first 3 shows Me & Doug used to roll around on the floor hugging before we went onstage. I used to call him Mr Snuggles I think. I can’t remember properly.
