An Interview w/ Daniel Balk of The Postelles!
The Postelles are a band with some of the craziest, upbeat energy and all of their songs are full of catchy melodies and intriguing rhythms. They are a group who deliver tracks you can not only dance to but also can sing along with. I love each attribute of their music, so when their vocalist Daniel Balk took the time to do an interview with AMBY, I couldn’t have been more thrilled!
AMBY: I have to begin by saying thanks for taking the time to do this, we love The Postelles! Well, what has the band been up to lately?
DB: We’ve been on a tour of North America.
AMBY: Which three songs are the quintessential Postelles?
DB: All of our songs are quintessential but three notable ones would be Running Red Lights, 123 Stop and White Night.
AMBY:You’re currently recording your second album, which direction have you taken it and what’s to be expected?
DB: We’ve spent more time on the different sounds of the record and layering the songs to really make them full.
AMBY: What’s your favourite Postelles lyric?
DB: I like ‘Misery loves company when the companies a drink’ from Hey Little Sister.
AMBY: My sister Maddie and I love the lyrics to Boy’s Best Friend, so cleverly written. What’s the story behind the track?
DB: Billy and I saw a girl in High School who ended up liking girls after she saw us, simple as that.
AMBY: We saw you in Toronto with The Kooks, and you are crazy energetic live, but which song really gets you going on stage?
DB: It depends on the tour, but we’ve had a lot of fun playing the new songs on this run. It really helps when the crowd is particularly into a song.
AMBY: Speaking of live shows and touring, which member would you kick off the tour bus and why?
DB: That also depends on the tour and the time, but none of us snore, so maybe no one would get kicked off.
AMBY: You’ve done a great cover of The Ramones’ California Sun! What other tracks would you love to cover?
DB: Right now we are covering The Rolling Stones The Last Time on this tour and having a great time doing it.
AMBY: Where would you go in a time machine?
DB: I’d love to go to Abbey Road Studios in England when The Beatles were recording Abbey Road the album.
AMBY: What song could you live without ever hearing again?
DB: I could live without hearing Van Halen’s Jump.
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012 so far?
DB: Our song Running Red Lights.
AMBY: Lastly, tell me something about The Postelles that nobody knows… Yet!
DB: John and I love sharing a bed and David and Billy love going to the movies. Date night for everyone.
If The Postelles are in your neighbourhood, definitely go check them out if you can; they put on an extremely energetic and crowd enthralling show you won’t want to miss! Below is their latest single Running Red Lights. And last but not least, thank you very much Daniel, for giving me your answers!
