Lucy Rose is known for her beautiful, sweet and attractive vocals. She absolutely captivated me with her vocals on Bombay Bicycle Club’s Flaws, and once her debut album Like I Used To was released, the need for more dynamic vocals was fulfilled. I, of course, am not the only one who loves her music, so AMBY asked her some questions on songwriting, Like I Used To and embarrassing albums- for all her fans to read!
AMBY: You recently released your debut album Like I Used To, what have you been up to since?
LR: Been on tour most of the time. We were in the van heading to Germany when I found out about the chart position and then been all around the UK and still on tour.
AMBY: How would you describe the songwriting process on Like I Used To?
LR: I’m not sure, I try not to over think writing songs and let them be as natural as possible. I wrote all of them in my bedroom and then worked out he arrangements afterwards.
AMBY: You look like you had a lot of fun filming the video for Bikes, where did the concept come from?
LR: I came up with the idea because I wanted to do something different that would shock people and I thought it would be so much fun to make (which it was.) It was one of the best experiences I’ve had.
AMBY: I really love the track Lines, what is the story behind it?
LR: I again wanted to write something different and I had the idea for the chorus to have a massive tempo change, mainly to see if it would work and luckily it did.
AMBY: What is your favourite lyric that you have written?
LR: Oh god I dunno, I’m not sure if any of my lyrics are any good.
AMBY: If you could invite three people to dinner who would you choose?
LR: Neil Young, Joan Armatrading, Dolly Parton.
AMBY: Who are your biggest musical influences? I hear there are some Canadians!
LR: Again Neil Young and of course Joni Mitchell. Along with Carole King, Nico and many more.
AMBY: How did you meet and eventually record and tour with Bombay Bicycle Club?
LR: I met Jack after the boys played an acoustic gig in a pub down the road from me and then I started singing with them occasionally. I then sang on Flaws, toured with them, and it carried on from there.
AMBY: What is the craziest thing to happen to you while touring?
LR: I went a did a gig in a school the other day to raise money for Cancer Research, that was pretty strange but amazing.
AMBY: What album are you most embarrassed to own?
LR: Aqua- Aquarium
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?
LR: Feel To Follow– The Maccabees
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about you that nobody knows yet?
LR: I’m constantly worrying about everything.
Lucy’s debut album Like I Used To is out now, so lend an ear over to the iTunes store here! She is also on tour at the moment and trust me, when we saw her live this year it was a lovely show. And last but not least, thank you Lucy, for giving me your answers!
