This is a band you have to watch out for. Dexters have a great groove and their songs will make you want to jump around and sing. Once I first heard their track Recover, I was hooked. AMBY loves speaking to bands with brilliant music, so Dexters’ vocalist Tom took the time to answer some questions for us!
AMBY: For those who haven’t had the treat of hearing you, how would you describe Dexters’ sound in three words?
Dexters: Raw, Lively & Pure.
AMBY: Your glorious debut single Recover is a high energy anthem, what is the story behind the song?
Dexters: It’s about having an ex going out of their way to let you know they’re doing fine without you.
AMBY: Is there an album in the works? If so, when will it be released?
Dexters: We have the songs for one ready to go but no recording date set just yet. There will definitely be a Dexter’s album out in 2013.
AMBY: Who influences you as songwriters?
Dexters: The Kinks are a big song-writing influence we love how a lot of their songs follow a narrative that you can relate to.
AMBY: What can people expect at your live shows?
Dexters: They can expect to have a great night watching a band that loves playing live, we don’t stand still looking at the floor we are all over the stage having the time of our lives.
AMBY: Describe your dream gig and who would be on the bill with you.
Dexters: We would love to play anywhere with the Black Lips they’re one of the best live bands about. The dream gig would have to be the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury.
AMBY: Who would you like to be most and least stuck with in an elevator?
Dexters: If I had to be stuck in one it might as well be with someone funny I’d say Seth McFarlan. I’d hate being stuck in one with some idiot from The Only Way Is Essex.
AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?
Dexters: Oasis- Definitely Maybe: I was too young to notice it when it came out, I only got into them a lot later, but when I heard it I knew that it would be my favourite album forever.
Libertines- Up The Bracket: I love that album it’s so raw and ramshackle but it sounds so good all the songs have amazing lyrics that I wish I had written.
The La’s- The La’s: I’d heard There She Goesbefore and liked it but never investigated who it was by and didn’t search for more of their songs, I read an article where Noel Gallagher was talking about the album saying how good it was so I got a copy and was blown away, it’s so underrated.
AMBY: What do you do outside music for fun?
Dexters: Don’t have a lot of time for anything else just the usual stuff I suppose hanging out with family, going out with mates and watching football.
AMBY: How important has social media been to your success?
Dexters: It’s really important it helps you get to a much wider audience a lot faster than I imagine it did back in the day. It’s great to keep people up to date with what your doing and helps us keep close to them.
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?
Dexters: I got to say Dexters’ Recover.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Dexters that nobody knows yet?
Dexters: We all sing Barbara Annby the Beach Boys very badly before every gig!
Honestly, you have to listen to Recover, such a tune. Also check out Dexters’ Facebook page for updates on gigs and of course, music! Lastly, thank you Tom, for giving me your answers!
