An Interview with Daniel Harvey from Dog Is Dead!
There’s a reason why Dog Is Dead are one of the most hyped bands of 2012. After plenty of splendid EPs, the excitement grew for their debut album. Once released, I’m pretty sure fans could not have been happier with the excellent showing of tracks. Dog Is Dead surely delivered an amazing debut album! We caught up with the band and spoke to drummer Daniel Harvey to talk about superpowers, “doosh-bag anthems” and All Our Favourite Stories!
AMBY: For those who haven’t had the treat of hearing you, how would you describe Dog Is Dead’s sound in three words?
DID: Soulful, harmonious, choral.
AMBY: Your new and great album All Our Favourite Stories was recently released, which three tracks must everyone hear off it?
DID: We made the album as a body of work that we’re really proud of. Listen to the whole thing from start to finish.
AMBY: The Talk Through the Night video looks like you had a lot of fun filming! What’s the story behind the track?
DID: We wanted to write a doosh-bag anthem. It’s all about not trying to be too cool.
AMBY: Which Dog Is Dead lyric is your favourite?
DID: I guess All Our Favourite Stories from Two Devils sums up the record very well.
AMBY: You have been touring quite a bit lately, which member would you kick off the tour bus and why?
DID: Joss so he couldn’t play bands we love SO much that we end up not liking them anymore.
AMBY: On the topic of touring, Bombay Bicycle Club had some nice things to say about you. What was a highlight of touring with them?
DID: They’re great guys and we love their music. I think it was just cool to play in much bigger venues than we’re used to.
AMBY: If you could cover any song, which would it be and why?
DID: We’ve done a few covers recently, but we’ll leave it as a surprise for when they surface on the World Wide Web.
AMBY: Who are the last artists you listened to?
DID: Sigur Ros.
AMBY: If DID was a superhero, what would your powers be and what would you use them for?
DID: Flying. So we could tour cheaper.
AMBY: Which band would you like to see reform?
DID: The Beatles. You didn’t say it had to be possible.
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012 so far?
DID: That’s not an easy one to answer. California Daze by Peace is a tune.
AMBY: Lastly, tell me something about the band that nobody knows yet.
DID: Rob doesn’t like dogs.
Please take a listen to Dog Is Dead’s track Teenage Daughter, it’s a brilliant tune. And thank you so much Daniel, for giving me your answers!
