Coves have such a wonderfully sonic approach to their music. Entrenched in beautifully warm harmonies and dreamy psychedelic guitars, listening to Coves will give you a warm and fuzzy feeling. Wanting to find out more about this excellent duo, we caught up with them to talk about all things Coves.
AMBY: I have to begin by saying thanks for taking the time to do this. What has the band been up to lately?
Coves: We have just come off tour with Eugene McGuinness last tour date was at the 100 Club. We played with Tom Vek the following week at the Garage for Fred Perry Subculture, November was a good month.
AMBY: For those who haven’t had the pleasure of hearing you, how would you describe Coves’ sound in three words?
Coves: COVES, COVES, COVES
AMBY: You have recently released the Cast A Shadow EP, is there an album in the works and if so, when will it be coming out?
Coves: We are always in the studio making new COVES baby’s…
AMBY: How did the band come to form?
Coves: A booze filled night…
AMBY: What is the most memorable moment you’ve had while touring?
Coves: This last tour would be in Bristol… we had a chap called Jeffery Johns stand right at the front of the stage and give it 200% all through the gig.. Made my night!
John: Becky threatening every man on the tour with her fists ‘Des and Troy’
AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?
Coves: Play any 45 at 33…it will change your life. Music at normal speed is boring.
AMBY: I love the track No Ladder, what is the story behind the song?
Coves: Musically, it was written on a roasting hot day in summer….I spent the day on my back in a field and the evening working on this tune…best day ever. Lyrically it’s about those kind of people that just think they are SOOOOOO special.
AMBY: Where would you go in a time machine?
Coves: I would go back to the future as the past is SHIT.
AMBY: What’s on your iPod at the moment?
Coves: The new Clinic album, constantly
AMBY: Describe your dream gig and who would be on the bill with you.
Coves: It would be in Beaconsfield service station, we would be full of McDonald’s, Tim two hats (our soundman) will have built some kind of tape echo and we would have a light show that would make Jean Michelle Jarre look like a mobile disco. We wouldn’t want any other band to take away from the delights of Beaconsfield so we would just leave it at us.
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012 so far?
Coves: Feels Like We Only Go Backward– Tame Impala
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Coves that nobody knows yet?
Coves: John has 11 toes. Beck is a really difficult person to be around when hungry.
Coves track Cast A Shadow is fantastic, so take a listen below if you want an amazing, new song! And lastly, thank you Coves, for giving us your answers!
