For many years, Jazz Music has been out of fashion. Back in the early part of what us young people call “The 20th Century”, jazz music was a bit popular and many of the tunes that were devised and recorded have become Jazz Classics. However, People like Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis are a thing of the past these days, with Jazz now considered to be uncool, pretentious and very much inaccessible. Well, that might’ve changed when 3 young Jazz musicians from Toronto broke out in a big way in 2011. BADBADNOTGOOD released their debut album, full of hip-hop covers, a couple of originals and tributes to Joy Division and The Legend Of Zelda. It was a bold move from kids who apparently submitted the same work to be assessed only for them to be told what they were making wasn’t proper Jazz. Thankfully, Tyler, The Creator gave them the leg up they needed.
Fast forward to 2013, and BADBADNOTGOOD are now about to do big things. A 3rd album is on the way, a collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan towards the end of last year and rumblings from industry insiders say these guys are going to do big things in 2013.
So while you wait for that, check out their 2 albums available FREE TO DOWNLOAD from their website. And hear what drummer Alex has to say about Giant Steps at the end of BBNG1!
