The Family Rain are a trio comprised of brothers William Walter, Timothy Walter and Ollie Walter; and together they make great music. With tropical vibes, jamming rock riffs, and vocals packed with attitude, The Family Rain are a wicked band. All of these elements of their music are shown in their latest, stellar release Carnival. AMBY knew we had to speak with this band! Why? Because when it comes to killer tunes and the Family Rain… It pours.
AMBY: For those who haven’t had the pleasure of hearing you, how would you describe The Family Rain’s sound in three words?
The Family Rain: PRETTY FUCKING AMAZING.
AMBY: When did three of you start playing music together?
The Family Rain: We’ve been making music together for about 8 years now, but until 2011 it was always with other people in the band. After that we decided to start The Family Rain…
AMBY: Who influences The Family Rain as musicians and songwriters?
The Family Rain: Way too many artists to fit on this page! A good starting place for us is The Beatles and The Stones, mixed with some classic Hip Hop!
AMBY: What are you your plans as far as releasing an album?
The Family Rain: We’re actually in the middle of recording our debut album now, and it’s going great! We can’t wait to get the tunes out there!
AMBY: What are the best and worst things about being in a band where you are all brothers?
The Family Rain: The best thing has to be the fact that we can be brutally honest with each other and no one ever really takes anything to heart, if two of us think that the other one has come up with a rubbish idea we’ll tell them straight up.
AMBY: What’s on your iPod at the moment?
The Family Rain: Songs Mostly….
AMBY: Trust Me…I’m A Genius is a stellar song, what is the story behind it?
The Family Rain: Thanks! It basically came about when Will asked Ollie how he thought The Beatles would write and play a hip hop riff, he came up with the guitar part and it went from there…
AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?
The Family Rain: This is probably different for all three of us so we’ll answer separately…
Ollie (guitar): Back in Black (AC/DC), The Black Album (Metallica) & The White Album (The Beatles). Maybe I just have a thing for monochrome shades…?
Will (vocals, bass): Let it Bleed (The Rolling Stones), This is It (The Strokes), The Low end Theory (A Tribe Called Quest)
Tim (drums): The Reminder (Feist), Kala (M.I.A), Help (The Beatles)…Fuck It, ANYTHING by the Beatles.
AMBY: Who would you like to be most and least stuck in an elevator with?
The Family Rain: Most would probably be Alexa Chung, For obvious reasons. Least would be Sarah Jessica Parker because ?
AMBY: Describe your dream gig and who would be on the bill with you.
The Family Rain: Sell out Wembley stadium supported by The Rolling Stones. Ha. Johnny Depp can join us on guitar for a song or two.
AMBY: What was the Best song of 2012?
The Family Rain: Jake Bugg, Lightning Bolt.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about The Family Rain that nobody knows yet?
The Family Rain: Tim and Will went to School with Pro Skater Ben Nordberg..
Lend an ear to Carnival below, it’s a great track! And thank you very much The Family Rain, for giving us your answers!
