Jenny Broke The Window are a wonderful band that you have to become acquainted with. The group hailing from Sydney conjure up a splendid mix of modern musical mojo and melodic vibes. Their new single released today, Ravel, is a great introduction to what these Aussies exemplify. Jenny broke more than the window with Ravel, they broke new ground. Rhythmically amazing and sonically dynamic, the track is laced with big vocal hooks and harmonic excellence. To celebrate its release, AMBY chatted with Jenny Broke The Window about the origin of their name, yoga and the story behind Fancy Dress.
AMBY: How would you describe Jenny Broke The Window’s sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
JBTW: We try and make music that we would like to hear if we were out at a bar or club. It’s made up of predominantly looped samples, drum patterns and punchy bass.
AMBY: Where did the name Jenny Broke The Window come from?
JBTW: It’s an incident that occurred to the brothers Sam and Matt when they were kids. They blamed their neighbour Jenny for breaking their window when really it was them.
AMBY: Fancy Dress is such a catchy song, what is the story behind the song?
JBTW: It’s a song about a friend who was invited to a dress up party but didn’t want to take part so dressed as herself. Everyone has that friend that finds it so hard to relax and let go….so yeah, it’s having a go at her.
AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?
AMBY: What does the band have planned for 2013?
JBTW: We have our first single released on February 11, and from there we will be working on producing our EP and releasing it before the end of the year.
AMBY: Who would your dream gig be with?
JBTW: Ohhh that’s such a hard question. So many to choose from. Have to be The Drums.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
JBTW: Alt-J, Jagwar Ma and Millions
AMBY: If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would you choose?
JBTW: Grimes, Julian Casablancas and Ned Kelly.
AMBY: Lastly, what has you excited for 2013?
JBTW: Playing some gigs around the country and hopefully meeting some killer bands along the way.
Ravel can be heard below! And thank you very much Jenny Broke the Window, for giving us your answers!
