Everything about The Darlingtons is appealing. This group are able to write extremely well-written hooks, along with music that you cannot tire of. The Darlingtons not only have a niche for writing alternative songs; for even when it comes to Christmas tunes, they still manage to knock out another killer track. So to see what this four-piece have been up to, we spoke with the band about their track Everything, skateboarding and more!
AMBY: How would you describe The Darlingtons’ sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
The Darlingtons: Cider fueled guitar music.
AMBY: You are currently working on your second album. What does the band have planned for 2013?
The Darlingtons: We have a single from our debut album ‘Decades Dance’ coming out very soon. We will also start recording our second album this year. Other than that we will just be touring lots. We going back out to Italy in April to do some shows over there. We’ve got gigs in Scotland in June too, and hopefully lots of festivals throughout the summer.
AMBY: Everything is an ace song, what is the story behind it?
The Darlingtons: It’s one of those songs which you can take as your own. Everyone has held on to something or someone which means more to them than anything else. It’s just about a moment of clarity where amongst everything going on around you, you realise what is important.
AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?
The Darlingtons: We played a little festival a few years ago and about 2 minutes before stage time, our guitarist Dan downed a yard of ale. He threw up mid-set.
AMBY: If you could create a law that everyone would have to follow, what would it be?
The Darlingtons: Probably take away the tax on booze, get more people coming out to gigs and to the pubs.
AMBY: Who would your dream gig be with?
The Darlingtons: The National.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
The Darlingtons: Neil Diamond, Tall Ships, Hammock, Richard Hawley
AMBY: If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would you choose?
The Darlingtons: Dr Christian Jeson, Jeremy Kyle and Hunter S. Thomspson
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?
The Darlingtons: Tall Ships – Books.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about The Darlingtons that nobody knows yet?
The Darlingtons: We all used to skateboard together before we were a band. We even made a video which is knocking around somewhere!
Thank you The Darlingtons, for giving me your answers!
