sickBrooklyn’s Seasick Mama has finally released her splendid debut EP Dead Like Money. A collection of fascinating tales and eclectic bliss delivered with a voice that will make you a believer, Seasick Mama is for real. Not one to pull punches, Seasick Mama spoke to AMBY about air humping, Adele, and becoming a sexier woman.
AMBY: How would you describe Seasick Mama’s sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
Seasick Mama: Unbelievably sexy, the dirty kind of sexy.
AMBY: You have just released your debut EP Dead Like Money. Is there an album in the works?
Seasick Mama: I am going to continue making a series of EPs, a different sound each record. My next EP is mostly with Peter Wade (of MNDR)…Once I find the right vibe and the most important story, I will work on a full length record.
AMBY: Quit Your Job is a fine song, what is the story behind it?
Seasick Mama: Never settle for something you don’t like ever. Person, place, thing. If you ever have the tiny voice in your head, that you don’t like it, get rid of it.
AMBY: What is your favourite track off the EP and why?
Seasick Mama: Dead Like Money…the lyrics are dope.
AMBY: If you could create a law that everyone would have to follow, what would it be?
Seasick Mama: E-mails are not a valid form of communication. If something was said through e-mail, it was never said at all.
AMBY: Who would you like to be most and least stuck in an elevator with?
Seasick Mama: I would want to be stuck in an elevator with Reggie Watts. I would NOT want to be in an elevator with Taylor Swift.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
Seasick Mama: I am a little late on this, but Adele.
AMBY: How important has social media been to your success?
Seasick Mama: I wish it wasn’t.
AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?
Seasick Mama: I air humped some monitors during “Pumping”.
AMBY: What is your worst habit?
Seasick Mama: Reminding people.
AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?
Seasick Mama: Getting closer with my band, playing tighter, becoming a sexier woman, growing into my body, falling deeper in love.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Seasick Mama that nobody knows yet?
Seasick Mama: We have 40 new songs nobody has heard yet!
