LA SHARKLa Shark create noise we’ve never heard before. It’s a dynamic, ground-breaking sound and vibe, completely unique to the band. Think of it this way… If glamour-pop smashed itself together with indie-whimsy, you would have La Shark. When we first listening to them, we almost felt estranged from reality as the music pulled us into La Shark’s bizarrely fascinating world. So come along with AMBY on this enjoyable, musical discovery as La Shark talk about how their name rolls off the tongue, locking songwriters in a room, and materializing plans!

AMBY: Hey La Shark, how are you doing?

La Shark: Pretty swell, hanging out by the pool in the Hollywood hills, sipping on purple drank. More importantly how are YOU doing?

AMBY: How would you describe La Shark’s sound in three words?

La Shark: An elaborate joke.

AMBY: What’s the origin of the band’s name?

La Shark: We were called Le Shark for a long time, but after an EXPENSIVE and tiring legal battle with a certain clothing company we had to settle with La Shark… but we like it it rolls off the tongue.

AMBY: What’s the funniest moment you’ve had as a band?

La Shark: That’s a good question, the first thing that springs to mind is sitting in a bar in Warsaw discussing the main ingredients of coleslaw and realising that we might have finally run out of things to talk about…. Or when Samuel did a backflip off the front of the stage at a gig in Leeds, cracked his head open and did the last 2 songs of the set bleeding everywhere with concussion. After the show we took him back stage and found a bottle of iced water in the freezer which we made him hold to his head for the rest of the night. It wasn’t until the next morning when the bottle had reached room temperature we realised it was actually a bottle of piss he’d been holding against his face…why someone was keeping a bottle of their urine in the freezer is still a mystery.

AMBY: Magazine Cover is one of the coolest songs I’ve ever heard. How the hell did you come up with such a unique track?!

La Shark: We got 17 of the world’s most successful songwriters, locked them in a room for 3 days without food or water and this was the sound they made when we unlocked the door.

AMBY: Are there any plans for a North American tour? We’d love to see La Shark in Toronto!

La Shark: Of course there are plans, hopefully they will materialize sooner rather than later, we focusing on new recordings for the moment then we’ll take them out on the road for y’all.

AMBY: If the band were a superhero, what would your name be, and what powers would you have?

La Shark: We’d all give you separate answers for this, I’ve always wanted the ability to grow hair on demand to any length, how cool would that be? I don’t particularly think this would classify me as a superhero in this life though… People would just be like “Hey there goes that guy who can grow his hair real quickly”

AMBY: What’s your favourite La Shark lyric?

La Shark: “Steamroller takes down a brother by the laces, and I just thought that all needed was Oregano to make a convincing take-away meal”

AMBY: What’s the best part about being in La Shark?

La Shark: Well you can’t put a price on all the pussy in the world.

AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?

La Shark: We’ve got to a place now where we can go to a lot of countries in the world and play to our fans, which is amazing. Also I just found out Michael Owen is retiring from football at the end of the season.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about La Shark that nobody knows yet?

La Shark: Nick is a championship ice-skater and is a shoe in for RIO 2016.
