High Wycombe’s Robert Waters, Harry Roche, Joe Miller, and Ben Stratford are As Elephants Are. An energetic band creating brilliant “dark moody indie pop music”. We’ve been hooked to their music since our first listen of Lucifer. We had a few questions for this excellent band, so check out our interview with As Elephants Are, where we talk the story behind their name, new music they’re excited for, and their ultimate dinner party guests!
AMBY: How would you describe As Elephants Are’s sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
As Elephants Are: The best way to describe it is dark moody indie pop music. When we get together to write it’s all so natural and we don’t want to ruin that by trying to sound like any particular genre.
AMBY: Where did the name As Elephants Are come from?
As Elephants Are: The name was from a wild life magazine. We gave our self a deadline for the name and it was the only thing we had to read and it was just there… which was lucky for us as we were struggling hah
AMBY: Lucifer is such an interesting song, what is the story behind the song?
As Elephants Are: What really helped mold Lucifer as a song was the studio where we recorded it and our producer Sam Winfield, the song was so dreamy and chilling purely though the vibes at the studio and how relaxed we felt.
AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?
As Elephants Are: The funniest thing that has ever happen was when we played Beach Break Live last year, it involved a tent and our friend Eddie but that’s about all we can say….
AMBY: You have just released your new single Youth Blood, is there an album in the works?
As Elephants Are: We our always working towards a first album but who knows how far away we are from it. For us it’s a huge deal and we wouldn’t want to ruin it by rushing anything so we will just keep writing for now.
AMBY: Who would you like to be most and least stuck in an elevator with?
As Elephants Are: Being stuck in a lift would not be fun with anybody but I guess if I had to be with someone it would be Snoop Dogg, and least like would be Piers Morgan.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
As Elephants Are: Really can’t wait for Peace’s album to come out. Also China Rats new single is really sweet! Really into a band called ChildHood at the moment. We got a sneak peak of Coastal Cities new single which is sooo rad!
AMBY: If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would you choose?
As Elephants Are: This is the easiest question, Kate Upton, Caggie Dunlop, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (they count as one).
AMBY: And lastly, what has you excited for 2013?
As Elephants Are: A band called Blaenavon look pretty sweet and also LULS have us gripped.
Thank you As Elephants Are, for giving us your answers!
