It’s the studio project of a solo musician who quit playing live for other bands to record his own material. It is darkly rhythmic, lo-fi, spooky, midnight folk inspired by el Día de los Muertos, Señora de las Sombras and anything on the darker side of folklore. The music has been described most aptly as if someone had attacked a Bon Iver master tape with a mix of hydrochloric acid and whiskey.
Two EPs have been recorded (Quiet Haunt, Brittle Breeze) both of which are free to download from the usual places. A third EP is on the way. Whilst still a relatively new project still finding its feet, Calaca Strides was included on Simon Raymonde’s (Bella Union Records) end of year list of favourite, non-label acts and several tracks have been aired by BBC Introducing.
