PVT’s Richard Pike, Laurence Pike, and Dave Miller bring electronic music to a different level of excellence. Hearing their latest album Homosapien, we were greeted with warm synths, atmospheric vocals, and were able to make an instant connection to liking the album. AMBY wanted to speak with the band to find out more, so they graciously took the time to talk about Homosapien, their stellar song Shiver, 3D music videos, and if they were a heavy metal band!
AMBY: How would you describe PVT’s sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
PVT: Fantasy Beat.
AMBY: You have just released your latest album Homosapien. What does the band have planned next?
PVT: Shows in Australia, Europe and North America eventually. A new video out soon too.
AMBY: Shiver is a cool song, what is the story behind it?
PVT: Glad you like it. We knew from very early on that it was going to be the opening song of the record. It has such a simplicity that draws you in rather than trying to smash you in the face (as some of our older stuff may have). Lyrically it’s about being inside your own head as you fall asleep, drifting off and trying to make sense of things. The theme of acceptance of yourself and where you are occurs a lot in other songs too.
AMBY: If you were a heavy metal band whom would you be and why?
PVT: I’d like to be in Guns n Roses around the time Appetite came out. When you listen back to that record it’s pretty incredible how young Slash & Axl were. Not sure if they are ‘heavy’ enough though. If it’s not, maybe Slayer around ‘Reign in Blood’. Metal is a weird thing.
AMBY: Where did the idea to make the Vertigo video in 3D come from?
PVT: It was solely the idea of our director and good friend, Clemens Habicht. The 3D-ness suits the mood of the song as well as the concept of the video so well, I’m so happy with the result.
AMBY: Who would your dream gig be with?
PVT: We’d be opening for Suicide, Bjork & Depeche Mode. Ricardo Villalobos, Nathan Fake & Oni Ayhun are playing the after party.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
PVT: Latin Playboys, Luke Abbott, Here We Go Magic.
AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?
PVT: I can’t think of anything funny off the top of my head, but we’ve played some venues that should be considered a joke.
AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?
PVT: Playing our new record in front of new people is easily #1.
AMBY: If you could create a law that everyone would have to follow, what would it be?
PVT: In the interest of good conversation, no phones at the dinner table kids, ok?
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about PVT that nobody knows yet?
PVT: I’ve been adopted by the Pike family and am officially a brother. It’s mainly for visa reasons.
Thank you PVT, for giving us your answers!
