Hailing from the Gold Coast, six-piece FAIRCHILD are delivering creative indie, alternative pop. So far, the band have released their debut single Burning Feet– a track off their upcoming EP, FAIRCHILD, which we look forward to hearing in July! With the excitement to hear the EP, FAIRCHILD spoke with AMBY about “The Sandlot Kids”, their forthcoming EP, and playing overseas!
AMBY: Hey FAIRCHILD! How is everyone doing?
FAIRCHILD: Hey, we are doing good thanks!
AMBY: If you were to describe each band member in one word, which would you choose?
FAIRCHILD: Joker, worrier, director, reserved, researcher, captain (won’t say which word is for who)
AMBY: How would you describe your sound in three words?
FAIRCHILD: Indie, Alternative, Pop.
AMBY: Your debut single Burning Feet is fantastic! What was the recording process like?
FAIRCHILD: Thank-you, the recording process was a great experience overall. We team up with producer/mixer Catherine Marks who has worked with bands like Foals, Death Cab For Cutie & The Killers which are quite big influences of ours so that was exciting. Spending 2 weeks in the studio, we recorded 3 tracks which will feature on our upcoming EP. ‘Burning Feet’ was actually written in the studio which was something that we hadn’t planned on doing but was a great learning curve on building a song up that way.
AMBY: Speaking of the single, the lyrics are great, who or what influenced them?
FAIRCHILD: As the song started in the studio the lyrics where written over a couple days while it still was coming together instrumentally. The idea of the ‘burning feet’ concept is about chasing something that you really believe in and enjoy doing basically.
AMBY: What would a movie based on the band be called?
FAIRCHILD: In the studio, Catherine referred to us as ‘The Sandlot Kids’, so will go with a re-make of that.
AMBY: What’s the funniest moment you’ve had together as a band so far?
FAIRCHILD: It’s hard to pin point one moment but overall we usually make each other laugh quite a lot which is a positive in keeping strong friendships and separating the serious parts of playing in a band.
AMBY: Which three of your influences would you love to hang out with for a day?
FAIRCHILD: Collectively I’d say The Temper Trap, Foals & The Killers have been some of our main influences over the years so it would be cool to hang out with them for a day.
AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?
FAIRCHILD: We are excited to release our debut EP in July and play the tracks live. Ideally, we would love to be back in the studio before the year is out working on new material.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about FAIRCHILD that nobody knows yet?
FAIRCHILD: We will be heading overseas next month for some shows which will be announced soon.
Thank you FAIRCHILD, for giving us your answers!
