Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Shark?

SHARK?They say you can call them SHARK, or even SHARKQUESTIONMARK, but no matter what you call them, Shark? will always be a badass garage-rock band. Hailing from Brooklyn, these “four dudes” make seriously catchy tunes with upbeat riffs and memorable choruses. AMBY spoke with Shark? about humor and sarcasm, how they smell, and how you are what you eat!

AMBY: Hello Shark?, how are you and what have you been up to lately?

Shark?: Catching up on X-Files, UFO vids, trying to name a couple guinea pigs, the usual.

AMBY: We really enjoy your last record True Waste! What are your feelings about the album now that you’ve had time to reflect on it?

Shark?: I actually like it again and am proud of what we did. Its weird, I think when you work on something for a long time you lose perspective and start thinking everything you’ve ever done is a massive, horrible, failure. But now i wouldn’t go back and change a thing. I want to do new things.

AMBY: We look forward to hearing your next album Savior! How do you describe your new album in three words?

Shark?: Advanced. Crucial. Tokes.

AMBY: What’s the best part about being in Shark??

Shark?: Van jokes on tour. Free shoes sometimes. People thinking I’m that guy who busks in the subway.

AMBY: Does hailing from Brooklyn, New York have an influence on your sound? If so, how?

Shark?: In an indirect way, yes, I mean, you are what you eat, you know? And we eat, uh, bands, I guess. I guess you can’t help but be influenced by your environment in some way.

AMBY: What would be the band’s theme song?

Shark?: This should explain everything:

AMBY: What’s the story behind your track California Grrls, and what inspired the video? Those masks are great.

Shark?: The video idea came from a joke about a bunch of rollerblading Mitt Romney look-a-likes. We never did find the Rollerbladers, but we did find a bmx dude and a skateboarder. It’s impossible to see out of those masks, so even though it would be hilarious, I can’t recommend trying to Rollerblade while wearing one

AMBY: Who or what inspired the band’s name? We have to ask about that question mark!

Shark?: Mulder & Scully have yet to get to the bottom of that one. Perhaps the answer is inside of YOU!?

AMBY: Change is unavoidable, what is the one thing about Shark? that will never change?

Shark?: Farts? Ug, gross, i mean, a guess a self deprecating sense of humor and sarcasm?

AMBY: What’s the best release of 2013, so far?

Shark?: We’ve been jamming to Squarehead, Sleepies, Speedy Ortiz, Roomrunner, Sleeping Bag, Parquet Courts, Eula. Some of those are 2012ers though. Check ’em all out.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Shark? that nobody knows yet?

Shark?: We’re not as bad as we smell?
