Pet Friends previously told AMBY they’re “a four piece band who make music in a shed in Northwood”. The band has released a collection of songs titled I Don’t Want Pet Friends which features heartfelt songs with ringing guitars and fetching lyrics. Pet Friends create great music and cheeky interviews, so have a look as AMBY and Pet Friends talk about anti-love songs, Japan, favourite releases, and Devo!
AMBY: Hello , please introduce yourselves to AMBY!
Pet Friends: Hey there, we are Pet Friends, a four piece band from Hertfordshire, England. We’re called James, Matt, James and Tom. We’ve just started gigging and we are loving it.
AMBY: How would you describe your music to those unfamiliar with it?
Pet Friends: Altmathrotic.
AMBY: Where did the name Pet Friends come from?
Pet Friends: A Pet Friend is technically someone who you have your life with whom you share a tragic propinquity. But the name truly emerged when we all agreed on it.
AMBY: What inspired the concept of “I Don’t Want Pet Friends” for the EP title?
Pet Friends: The name is derived from one of the lyrics in our song Don’t : ‘I don’t want friends, I just want pictures of them’ . We thought it was a pretty clever piece of verbal crowbarring. It was either that or ‘Say Hello To My Little Pet Friends‘. We think we made the right choice.
AMBY: Expect You To is a great tune. What was the inspiration behind it?
Pet Friends: The general theme of the song ia about trying to undo love, trying to erase any memory of commitment and affection towards someone you don’t own anymore. an anti love song.
AMBY: You told us that the Pet Friends Demo “sounds really tasty”. What kind of sound should we expect?
Pet Friends: The demo is a collection of some of the first songs we ever wrote together. Its music played from the heart. We like to think it sounds fairly original but I guess if you had to put it into layman’s terms you would describe it as altmathrotic.
AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you at a gig?
Pet Friends: Well we actually played our first gig about a week ago so there are not too many experiences to draw from. The band that played after us was pretty comical though.
AMBY: If you could tour anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would you tour with?
Pet Friends: Japan with Arctic Monkeys.
AMBY: What’s the best release of 2013 so far?
Pet Friends: Foals – Holy Fire
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Pet Friends that nobody knows yet?
Pet Friends: We firmly believe that when a problem comes along. you must whip it.
Thank you Pet Friends, for giving us your answers!
