Honeyblood aren’t just “two Scottish girls who play songs about stuff”, for this Glasgow duo’s garage-pop is taking a walk on the elegant side, and man do we love it. To learn more about the band, AMBY spoke to Honeyblood about releasing their first single, career highlights, and poking around a few brains!

AMBY: Hello Honeyblood! Thanks for having a chat with AMBY, what have you been up to lately?

Honeyblood: We’ve just been away at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival last month and then recording in the studio with Rory Attwell.

AMBY: How would you describe your sound to those unfamiliar with your music?

Honeyblood: Bittersweet Garage-Pop.

AMBY: What do you have planned as far as your next release?

Honeyblood: We will be releasing a single in August… that’s the one we have just finished recording!

AMBY: What’s the story behind your stellar song Super Rat?

Honeyblood: Super Rat is a total prick who deserves to have this song written about them.

AMBY: What is the most inappropriate thing you have ever said?

Honeyblood: I’d rather not repeat it!

AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?

Honeyblood: Last Splash – The Breeders, For Every Punk Ass Bitch and Arsehole – Hang On The Box, The Smiths – Hatful of Hollow

AMBY: What have been some of the highlights of your career so far?

Honeyblood: Playing a show abroad at Talinn Music Week in Estonia. Such a beautiful place.

AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you at a gig?

Honeyblood: Actually, while in Estonia we were walking around the town centre with our pals, the band TRAAMS and Padley (bass) jumped over Shona’s head and broke his heel on landing. That was pretty hilarious for us, sore for him though. He was hobbling the rest of the time we were there.

AMBY: What is your song of the year so far?

Honeyblood: Our Pals from Manchester, PINS just released a new single called ‘Stay True’. It’s brills.

AMBY: What has you excited for the rest of 2013?

Honeyblood: Releasing our first single Bud in August and a tour to co-incide through the UK.

AMBY: If you had to describe each member in the band with one word, which word would define them?

Honeyblood: Short and Shorter.

AMBY: And last but never least, what’s something about Honeyblood that nobody knows?

Honeyblood: Shona (drums) has poked around a few brains in her time… literally!
