Brandon and Leah

It’s easy to say that Santa Monica’s Brandon and Leah have quite the loyal fanbase. When we interviewed the couple earlier this month, their Facebook page was at an incredible 70, 000 likes. Now (not too long after we interviewed them) their page has grown towards 94, 000 fans! Brandon and Leah are creating pop music with an irresistible groove, and I was pleased to interview Brandon and Leah’s Leah Jenner! Have a read as we talk about showstoppers, Breaking Bad, their fans, and their impressive music video.

AMBY: Hello Brandon and Leah, thanks for having a chat with AMBY! What have you been up to?

Brandon and Leah: We have been busy playing shows around town and writing up a storm for our next EP.

AMBY: How would you describe your sound to those unfamiliar with your music?

Brandon and Leah: We would classify our music as indie pop.

AMBY: Your Cronies EP is addictive. Which song is your favourite off of it?

Brandon and Leah: Thank you! Say it Ain’t So Bad holds the most sentimental value and seems to stay near and dear to me. It’s a song and message I wrote for my sister and it always gets the water works flowing every time I have a listen. -Leah

AMBY: The whole EP has a brilliant groove. Who inspires your sound?

Brandon and Leah: Thank you again! We take inspiration from everywhere.  Down on Venice beach in Cali forms a drum circle most evenings. The energy that accumulates between all who participate in pounding on the skins, i can only imagine, must be similar to that of a herd of wild elephants. Talk about inspiring!

AMBY: The video for Showstopper is a showstopper! How did you come up with the concept for the video?

Brandon and Leah: Brandon came up with the concept and I jumped at the chance to draw all over him and not get yelled at. I used loads of eyeliner, lip liner, nail polish etc. to create a railroad of lyrics up and down his appendages. However, we were surprised at the amount of time it took to complete the lyrical drawings. We were hell bent on shooting it outside and the winter sun was a kiss away from setting. By the time I finished his body art we had 20 minutes to get the one-take shot. Thankfully our buddy Trevor Funk, of the Funk Brothers, managed to do so just before the sky went black.

AMBY: If you could choose to have your music featured in any movie or show, which would you choose?

Brandon and Leah: Breaking Bad is ridiculous. We watch it religiously.

AMBY: What’s the best part of being Brandon and Leah?

Brandon and Leah: I have worked as a hostess, a waitress and a sales associate in a clothing store. By far, the part I like best about being in Brandon and Leah is that I feel lucky enough to do what I love for a living. It truly is a blessing and I feel grateful every single day at work.

AMBY: Which bands or artists have you been listening to lately?

Brandon and Leah: Blake Mills, Jesca Hoop, Terraplane Sun to name a few.

AMBY: What’s the best song of 2013?

Brandon and Leah: Wow, that’s a difficult question. I don’t think I’m qualified enough to answer that one as I live in a dark cave called the studio and seldom experience the outside world.

AMBY: Your Facebook page has reached over 70, 000 likes, and your fanbase is ever-growing! Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?

Brandon and Leah: Holy shit, thank you!!! We are doing this all on our own. No major labels, no man behind the curtain, and to feel the overwhelming love and support that comes from our fans is nothing short of miraculous. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing us to do what we love, make music.

AMBY: And last but never least, what’s something about Brandon and Leah that nobody knows yet?

Brandon and Leah: Brandon’s pregnant.
