If you’re a fan of rhythm and blues and want a band who look and deliver a psychedelic vibe, get to know Reading four-piece TAIL FEATHER. Their debut single Spellbinder was released back in August; an enchanting track spilling with multicoloured harmonies and sixties grooves. To learn more about the quartet, A Music Blog, Yea? spoke with the band to talk about trippy videos, The Beatles, and running into the wild.
AMBY: Hello TAIL FEATHER, thanks for chatting with us. What’s the band been up to lately?
TAIL FEATHER: Hey man, Thanks for chatting to us! At the moment we’ve been playing shows and promoting our new single ‘Spellbinder’. We also plan to record our next single in the up and coming months.
AMBY: How would you describe your sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
TAIL FEATHER: Psychedelic rhythm & blues.
AMBY: Spellbinder is one hell of a psychedelic and groove tune. What inspired the song?
TAIL FEATHER: The song is about spotting someone who you like the look of, not having the confidence to talk to them, then dreaming about what things would be like if you did.
AMBY: The video for Spellbinder follows in the same trippy vein as the song. How did you create the concept for the video?
TAIL FEATHER: After spending a lot of the time in the woods, we figured it would be the best way to describe the song. The aim was to make the audience feel like they are walking around with us.
AMBY: Which TAIL FEATHER lyric is your favourite?
TAIL FEATHER: Hard to choose, but if I had to I’d go for ‘We howl at the clouds as they float in the sky, and dance like the trees in the wind’
AMBY: The band has supported some great acts (Wolf Alice, Tripwires, and Babeshadow) over the past year. If you could tour with any band, who would you choose?
TAIL FEATHER: We’re very good friends with the Tripwires boys and we’ve shared many a good time with them, so touring together would be carnage! Pond also look like space cadets; they’d be good to tour with.
AMBY: Who would be in your ultimate concert line-up?
TAIL FEATHER: Present day would have to be The Black Angels, The Growlers and Melody’s Echo Chamber. If they ever get round to inventing the time machine it would have to be Floyd (circa 74) Dylan (circa 65) and The Stones (circa 72)
AMBY: If the four of you were The Beatles, who would be which Beatle?
TAIL FEATHER: Alex Wookie would be Aaron Lennon, Paul would be Tony Harrison, Alex B would be mum’s love the Bingo & Ringo, and Simon would be Heather Mc’cartney.
AMBY: Who have you been listening to this summer?
TAIL FEATHER: Lots and lots of Fleetwood Mac.
AMBY: What’s the best song of 2013?
TAIL FEATHER: Think it may have been 2012? But ‘On Blue Mountain’ by Foxygen has had some serious airing over the last 6 months.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about TAIL FEATHER that nobody knows yet?
TAIL FEATHER: When the first opportunity arises; We are running into the wild.
Thank you TAIL FEATHER, for giving us your answers!
