Wanted It More by Passport to Stockholm
I first came across Passport to Stockholm in the spring as they battled it out with other bands for a festival slot at a Road to Blissfields competition at The Monarch in Camden. Although their assured performance didn’t see them through on the day, they certainly caught people’s attention with the Sophie’s cello adding a fullness to their sound. And it says something for their generosity of spirit that vocalist Chris Barnard offered a slot to the winning band Jungle Doctors at his showcase for up and coming talent – Bloom at the legendary Troubadour – the very next week.
Now this London four piece are getting ready for the release of their debut EP Chemistry. They are funding this through a Pledge Music campaign (and true to their sense of sharing are giving some of the funds raised to a charity assisting those with spinal chord injuries). A pledge now gives an immediate download of track Wanted it More. It’s a track with instant appeal and it’s no surprise that it has sparked a degree of commercial interest, with HTC choosing it to showcase their HTC One ‘phone.
With Henri providing the beats, and Tom Piggott on guitar and the occasional loops, Passport to Stockholm have the feel of a new young band on the brink of a breakthrough. Their Chemistry EP may well be the vehicle to propel them up a gear.
