London’s MT (Many Things) release their fresh pop, disco-laced single Alpha Romeo on December 2nd, and the single launch party is on November 28th at Oslo in Hackney. With critical acclaim from the likes of NME, Clash, and DIY, there’s definitely something special about the band’s naturally refreshing sound. Before the launch party, A Music Blog, Yea? caught up with MT to talk about songs they’re sick of, being related to Princess Leia, and their logo.
AMBY: Hello MT, cheers for speaking with us today! Please introduce yourselves to AMBY.
MT: Hello! We are Macks Faulkron, Gabi Woo, Frederik Tyson-Brown and Michael Tomlinson performing together as a band known as MT from London.
AMBY: What has the band been up to lately?
MT: We have been working hard getting ready for the release of our single Alpha Romeo.
AMBY: How would you describe each member of MT in one word?
MT: Michael – Spirited, Macks – Sexual, Freddie – Classic, Gabi – Happy.
AMBY: The video for Alpha Romeo is great. What inspired the concept for the video?
MT: The inspiration came from parties that we used throw during our residency at Ridley Road Market Bar (Wu’s) in Dalston. We’d invite all our friends down and play all the songs we knew how to play, which at the start wasn’t a lot. Each month there would be new songs and new faces in the crowd. We still play at Wu’s and we feel very honoured to be a part of this community.
AMBY: Is there an EP or record in the works?
MT: Yes. Next we are going back into the studio to record with Dan Grech. He is an amazing producer and we’re really excited about recording with him again!
AMBY: What’s the significance behind the name MT? And what other names had you thought of for the band?
MT: MT stands for Many Things. This was always the name!
AMBY: How did the band come up with the upright arrow as your logo?
MT: Honestly I’m not sure, it just came to me. I have thought about the different meanings it could have, suffice to say, it stands for Many Things!
AMBY: Which of your influences would you love to hang out with for a day?
Michael: I don’t really covet this as I feel that my experience of the things they created would be different to theirs. If I ended up being friends with the people that inspired me musically that would be cool though, you can never have too many friends.
Gabi: I already hung out with Prince
Fred: Al Bowlly
AMBY: What song could you live without ever hearing again?
Michael: Goodnight Ladies by Lou Reed
Freddie: Gnossiene by Eric Satie
Macks: Sweetness, Yes
Gabi: Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond
AMBY: What’s your favourite release of the year so far?
Michael: Cloud Control, Dream Cave
Gabi: Haim, Cyril Hahn Remix of Don’t Save Me
Freddie: Death of Pop, The Hang
Macks: Is Tropical, I’m Leaving
AMBY: And last but not least, what’s something about MT that nobody knows yet?
MT: Freddie once spoke in the House of Commons on Human Rights and Gabi is related to Princess Leia.
Thank you MT, for giving us your answers!
