On Thursday afternoon in downtown Toronto, I met up with Nashville indie rock outfit Kopecky Family Band at The Canadian Pie Company. The sextet’s Kelsey Kopecky (vocals, keyboards, and bass) and Gabe Simon (vocals, guitar, and horns) were sitting at a booth in a corner of the quaint cafe, and I immediately felt their exuberant warmth as they introduced themselves and invited me to sit down with them and have a chat.
The band re-released their debut album Kids Raising Kids in April, recently dropped their latest EP We’ve Got It Covered in October, and are currently on a new tour with Lissie. It was a pleasure meeting such friendly and down to earth people, and after watching our conversation in this video, I have a feeling you’ll find them just as great as I did when meeting them.
A few hours before they hit the stage with The Mowgli’s and Said the Whale, Kelsey and Gabe spoke with A Music Blog, Yea? about the best BBQ spots in Nashville, their humourous and new Kopecky Family Band “gang sign”, and they even sang us one of their favourite Christmas songs.
