This is Gabe from the band Wilder Maker. Nice to meet you.
We come from all over the states and live in various tiny, dark rooms in Brooklyn, where we make music that’s mostly about love in its various forms. There are no fixed number of us, as all of us play in other bands, anything from trad jazz to Ethiopian pop to electrified Fahey-style American primitive. I write the songs, but everyone brings their own particular insanity to the arrangements.
Our new LP, Year Of Endless Light, came out in September. So far, people have said a lot of very nice things about it, and I couldn’t be prouder of how it came out. It was recorded entirely to tape at our bassist Elio DeLuca’s analog studio in MA, The Soul Shop. About twelve of us are on the record, and live shows are anywhere from 3-6 people usually. Most often you’ll see me on guitar and vocals, Katie Von Schleicher on keys and vocals, Sean Mullins on drums, and Will Graefe on lead guitar.
We spend a lot of time with strong coffee, rye whiskey, books by James Salter & Julio Cortazar, and records by Van Morrison and Cass McCombs and J Dilla. Lately I’ve also been obsessed with Teddy Pendergrass and R. Kelly. Not sure how that’s going to show up in the music, but I try to stay open to everything, even ballads about rubbing people down with hot oil.
We’ve got a music video or two in the pipeline and enough songs for at least another LP, so you’ll be hearing from us soon. Thanks to AMBY and Alicia for giving us the chance to say hey!
