Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ ABBY

ABBYBerlin, Germany’s ABBY recently had a chat with A Music Blog, Yea? about their latest album Friends and Enemies, their new cinematic video, finding inner peace, and Spike Jonze. This band is extremely humble and lighthearted, and we admire how these excellent qualities are not only displayed in this interview, yet also their music. To see what the future holds for ABBY, dig in:

AMBY: Hello ABBY, welcome to AMBY! What’s the band recently been up to?

ABBY: Thank you :)! At the moment we are back in Berlin preparing everything for the recording of our second album. We are going to start from February on and we are really excited.

AMBY: What have been the highlights of your tour so far?

ABBY: All in all we are very happy about the tour! We apreciate every one who came out to see us. But it was very special for us to play in a sold out venue in Berlin.

AMBY: You released your record Friends and Enemies back in July. What’s the significance behind the LP’s title?

ABBY: First of all there is to say that we tell, through out all our songs, the story of Abby. You learn about her feelings, her fears, hopes, her past, her family and most of all her friends. The title Friends & Enemies refers to the song Monsters. It’s about a conflict that begins with yourself and follows up throughout your whole life. It’s about peace of mind. It’s about good habits and bad habits. It’s about the little things and it’s always been there.

AMBY: Which songs are your favourite off the album?

ABBY: It’s always hard to decide on something like this :). But I guess it would be “Karma”, “this song remains through all”, “Calm Down” and “Monsters”….. It’s realy not so easy.

AMBY: The new cinematic video for Monsters is great. What’s the story behind the song?

ABBY: The song is about Abby’s thoughts which are refered to as “Monsters”. It’s her wish to find inner peace and agree with her life.

AMBY: Your song Again appeared on the soundtrack of The Hunger Games’ Catching Fire. If you could choose to have your music featured in any movie or show, which would you choose?

ABBY: We’re all huge fans of Spike Jonze. His new movie seems interesting. To contribute something to one of his movies would be amazing. There are a lot other great movies, series and artists aswell, we would love to work with!

AMBY: You are allowed to say one sentence, which will reach the whole world. What would you say?

ABBY: Get out of your head into your heart and take your time.

AMBY: Which other artists from Berlin should we keep our eyes on?

ABBY: “Brandt Brauer Frick” they are just great.

AMBY: What’s the best release of the year?

ABBY: John Hopkins “Immunity” but that’s just one out of many great releases this year.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about ABBY that nobody knows yet?

ABBY: We all wanted to be pro surfers ;).

Thank you ABBY, for giving us your answers!
