Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ The Preatures

The PreaturesIt has become obvious to us folks at A Music Blog, Yea? that Sydney rock and rollers The Preatures are a band to watch out for. With features like Pitchfork’s “Best New Track” and The Guardian’s “New Band of the Day”, the quintet have attained multiple praises for their flawless summer single Is This How You Feel?. They also recently announced that they are playing the prestigious Coachella music festival this year, and it’s clear that The Preatures are starting 2014 off with a bang. To find out what else is in store, we spoke with their frontwoman Isabella Manfredi about new releases, other artists from Sydney, her ultimate rock and roll song, and video games.

AMBY: Hello guys, cheers for speaking with us today. What’s the band been up to lately?

The Preatures: Hey! We just finished playing Falls Festival across Australia, and now we’re starting to write the record here in Sydney.

AMBY: How would you describe each member of The Preatures in one word?

The Preatures: Izzi – fiery, Gideon – antsy, Jack – awff, Luke – late, Tom – what?

AMBY: What’s the story behind Is This How You Feel, the title track of your latest EP?

The Preatures: We wrote it on the 10th of January 2013, so almost a year ago to the day. It’s sort of a love song I guess. All songs are love songs in the end whether you’re singing about politics or paddle pops.

AMBY: What’s next as far as releases go?

The Preatures: We’ve got a new single called Better Than It Ever Could Be coming out in the UK and AUS in the next month. And then, pumping out the hits.

AMBY: Which other bands from Sydney should we keep our eyes on?

The Preatures: Loads of great music coming out of Sydney. Our friends and faves are mostly electronic artists though. Check out Seekae, Elizabeth Rose and Jonti. Kirin J Callinan you have to see live as well if you can.

AMBY: Which of your influences would you love to have a jam session with?

The Preatures: JJ Cale, who died last year. What a legend.

AMBY: What are the top five things to do on your bucket list?

The Preatures: Bucket lists … pfft.

AMBY: What’s the ultimate rock and roll song?

The Preatures: I’m right into Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf at the moment. Fatboy Slim also did a wicked remix of it. Check it out.

AMBY: Which 2014 release are you most looking forward to?

The Preatures: The debut LP from Holiday Sidewinder, another Sydney friend now based in London. Holly used to front a band called Bridezilla and just before she left for overseas, I saw her play the new songs with Kirin J Callinan and Laurence Pike from PVT at Goodgod Small Club. They are fantastic, very beautiful and romantic in quite an epic way. Epic in the true sense of the word.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about The Preatures that nobody knows yet?

The Preatures: We’re big into video games. We’re working on a new clip that attempts to make us look cool.

Thank you The Preatures, for giving us your answers!
