If you’re gracing AMBY with your presence today looking for some soulful electro-pop, you’ve come to the right post. London’s Years & Years released their new EP Real earlier this week (out via Kitsuné) which includes remixes of their stellar dance single Real, plus their b-side Eyes Shut. Aside from the EP, Years & Years will also be headlining Hackney’s Oslo on March 5th. To know more about the single and their music, we caught up with the trio to discuss demos, inspirations, their name, and dancing with Gwyneth Paltrow.

AMBY: Good day, Years & Years! Please introduce yourselves to our readers.

Years & Years: Good day! We are Years & Years. We are a three piece electronic act from London. We like beats and bass and soul.

AMBY: How would you describe the band in one word?

Years & Years: Crunchy

AMBY: Where did the name Years & Years come from, and what other names had you considered for the band?

Years & Years: At first we were called Start With Noise, then we went through a couple of other weird names and ended up with Years & Years after a super fun brainstorming/mindmap session.

AMBY: On February 17th, you released your groovy single Real. What inspired the song?

Years & Years: Olly got dumped and he wrote it in a sad bitter rage.

AMBY: What’s next as far a recording goes? Is there a record in the works?

Years & Years: We’re writing and recording demo’s all the time so we’re aiming to have an album in the not too far off distant galaxy future.

AMBY: Which trend in music do you find the most annoying/irksome?

Years & Years: Faceless EDM and guys with guitars who think they’re poets.

AMBY: What are the top three live shows you’ve seen in your life?

Years & Years: Flying Lotus , Radiohead, Little Dragon.

AMBY: Who would your dream jam session be with?

Years & Years: Olly’s would be Stevie Wonder, Mikey’s would be Flea, Emre’s would be Prince

AMBY: Has there ever been a song you wish you wrote? And if so, which song?

Years & Years: A Song to the Siren by Tim Buckley and Free by Major Lazer and Dirty Projetors, oh and Jasmine by Jai Paul – ah there are too many.

AMBY: What has you excited for 2014?

Years & Years: Faster internet connection in our area, FKA twigs album.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Years & Years that nobody knows yet?
