We’re Thickets – an alt-folk three-piece from East London who also go by the names of Rebecca Lavery, Allanah Secis, and Kieran Lavery (guess which two of us are married). We’re inspired by the likes of Nick Cave, PJ Harvey and Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, but people have also compared us to The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, The Moulettes and, one of our favourites, Cocteau Twins (Elizabeth Fraser is a goddess!) We’re quite an unusual set-up – autoharp, cello and drums. But we make a surprising amount of noise on stage, especially when we use our loop pedals to layer up lots of lovely harmonies. For some reason, most of our songs seem to end up being about murder, death and other destructive forces, but we promise we’re very nice people really, and anyone who comes to see us live should definitely come and have a drink with us at the end of the show.
2014 is shaping up to be an exciting year for us. On March 31st, we’ll be releasing our first EP (you’ll be able to get hold of it through our website, www.thickets.co.uk, as well as on iTunes etc). And we’re also planning a mini UK tour around Easter, so look out for us if you live in or around Manchester, Bristol, Brighton or York. Plus we’ve just been booked to play at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August, and we’ve got another big UK festival lined up for the summer – we’re not allowed to tell you which one it is just yet, but suffice to say it’s a really, really good one.
In the meantime, you can have a listen to the tracks from our EP on our SoundCloud page or come and see us at one of our London shows.
Hope to see you there!
