Ledges, the highly anticipated debut full-length album from Noah Gundersen, is out now (via Dine Alone Records). Noah achieved worldwide recognition through his former band The Courage who broke up in 2011. The Seattle based singer-songwriter also has upcoming live shows in Montreal on March 27th and a sold-out Toronto show on March 28th. On the day of Ledges‘ release, A Music Blog, Yea? spoke with Noah Gundersen to discuss favourite concert moments, trading places with Prince, and inspirations.
AMBY: Hello Noah, welcome to AMBY. How are you today and what have you been up to lately?
Noah Gundersen: Well my album came out today so I’m fucking amped. I don’t think I’ve ever used the phrase “amped” before, thats how stoked I am.
AMBY: How would you describe your sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
Noah Gundersen: Sad bastard singer/songwriter music.
AMBY: Today you release your debut album Ledges. What were your biggest inspirations songwriting-wise on the LP?
Noah Gundersen: Being single for a while was an inspiration. Unfortunately hurting some people’s feelings. Having my own feelings hurt. A friend’s overdose. Attempting to define my relationship with alcohol. Growing up.
AMBY: If you had to pick one track off that album that best summarizes what you were hoping to achieve, which track would you pick and why?
Noah Gundersen: Ledges. It’s a 4 minute summary of my life in 2012.
AMBY: Which other artist from Seattle should our readers check out?
Noah Gundersen: Silver Torches. Ben Fisher. Le Wrens. Arkomo.
AMBY: You’ve played a number of major festivals including SXSW and Austin City Limits. What’s one of your favourite concert moments?
Noah Gundersen: We played Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival 2 years ago for the first time. I grew up going to the festival so it was a meaningful moment. Also, having 700 people show up for our set on a side stage made me feel very supported by the local community.
AMBY: If you could trade places with another artist in the music industry for one day, who would it be?
Noah Gundersen: Prince or Bowie. Because who the hell knows what they do in their free time? Or if they’re even human? I’d be interested to know.
AMBY: What has your excited for 2014?
Noah Gundersen: Everything. The new album, touring, playing new places and meeting new friends. I think we’re going to Europe this year, which has been a dream forever.
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Noah Gundersen that nobody knows yet?
Noah Gundersen: I’m pregnant.
Thank you Noah Gundersen, for giving us your answers!
