Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Human Human

Human Human
When I heard that Montreal’s Human Human were releasing their debut album Run in a very non-traditional format, I thought it was incredibly unique but wondered why not stick to the good ‘ol CD? The quartet (comprised of Olivier Larouche, Louis Lupien, Felix Roy, and Maxime St-Jean) released Run as a 72 page magazine, which you can purchase from their site now. In a recent interview, Human Human spoke with A Music Blog, Yea? to discuss why they created the magazine, playing the marimbas, their love of visual arts, and how they rock at Super Smash Bros 64. Read the entire interview below:

AMBY: Hello Human Human, welcome to the site! Please introduce yourselves to our readers.

Human Human: Hi. We are Human Human.

AMBY: How would you describe each member of the band in one word?

Human Human: Small, Smaller, Tall, Taller.

AMBY: You’ll recently released your debut album Run. Tell us a little about the album – what was one of the highlights you had while recording it?

Human Human: Man crush on Jace Lasek (who produced the album), got really good at NHL 94, got really really good at marimbas, felt like we were recording in the 70’s.

AMBY: What’s the significance behind the album’s title Run?

Human Human: There are two reasons. 1rst, It’s short and sweet name. We like title and themes that speak to everyone. ‘Run’ represents for us the urge of our generation of young people to do awesome things. 2nd : We dedicated this album to our great friend Run Weasley.

AMBY: The band chose to break traditional formats and release Run as a magazine. What influenced this unique decision?

Human Human: We didn’t see ourselves releasing a CD in 2014 since our laptops don’t have CD slots anymore. We always loved visual arts and there is so much talent in Montreal that we decided to make our own magazine.

AMBY: Which page out of the 72 pages is your favourite?

Human Human: It’s like asking you which of your child is your favourite? There is no good answer for this question. The magazine is awesome from the first page to the last.

AMBY: Which other artists from Montreal should we keep our eyes on?

Human Human: Naomie Tremblay, Yola Van Leuukenkamp, Le Massi, Pier Yves Larouche, LeBicar, Gabrielle LaÏla Tittley, Lm Chabot, Clara Parady, Zoé Pelchat & Andy Hooker, Mikaël Cardin, P E T E R AV.

AMBY: If you could have your music featured in any movie or television show, which would you choose?

Human Human: Anything with Will Ferrel. Or Dawson’s Creek.

AMBY: What has you excited for the rest of 2014?

Human Human: We are the best Super Smash Bros 64 players in the world. There is a world tournament this summer and we are going to win. So yeah, pretty excited about that. Oh and releasing our 1st album, touring and writing the 2nd one.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Human Human that nobody knows yet?

Human Human: This is hard for us to tell but we listen to this song at least once a day.  …… Wtf? Who are those guys? Seriously..

Thank you Human Human, for giving us your answers!
