Stephen Docker, Gerard Sidhu, Travis Constable, and Gillan Gregory are Strange Talk. You may be familiar with the Australian synthpop band by hearing their song Young Hearts as the underlying music of Snapchat’s latest video, or maybe you heard them when watching 90210 or Made in Chelsea, or maybe this is your your first time listening to the band. No matter how you came across their tracks, they’ll be sure to stay with you for a long time. With that said, we were very excited to catch up with the group before they play Toronto’s The Drake Underground tonight (Friday, May the 23rd). Indulge in our new interview below as we discuss their new album, awesome double lives, and tornadoes.
AMBY: Hey Strange Talk, welcome to our site! Please introduce yourselves to our readers.
Strange Talk: Hey! This is Steve, Gerard, Travis & Gillan
AMBY: How would you describe each member of Strange Talk in one word?
Strange Talk: Steve – tall, Gerard – short, Gillan – short , Travis – tall
AMBY: Currently on your North American tour, how’s it treating you so far?
Strange Talk: Great! We have had a great run of gigs and seen attendance grow in every city which is encouraging. It makes the current 2,000 mile trek from Seattle to Chicago worth it!
AMBY: What does the band like to do for fun while on the road?
Strange Talk: Most of the time we’re in the van traveling on little sleep, so it’s random delirious drivel we laugh at most of the time. But we all enjoy a good comedy movie or TV show.
AMBY: Your record Cast Away was released this month, congrats! What was the best moment you had while recording the album?
Strange Talk: Thank you. It was recorded over a long period of time. With a lot of touring back home in between, so a lot of great and crazy moments have happened. Recording some of the album between time at a farm outside of Melbourne and a beach house down the coast was special also.
AMBY: What’s the significance behind the title Cast Away?
Strange Talk: It comes from the opening track, Cast Away and it’s basically casting away past problems and looking more towards the future.
AMBY: If you could live a double life, describe it in a few sentences.
Strange Talk: We would all like to be like a Steven Segal character. A chef who is also a trained killing machine!….. Or Mrs. Doubtfire, a man dressed as an old lady. Imagine the senior discounts and priority bus seating you could get!
AMBY: What would a movie based on the band be called?
Strange Talk: Red Red Wine.
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Strange Talk that nobody knows yet?
Strange Talk: We just saw a tornado!
Thank you Strange Talk, for giving us your answers!
