The Fruitful Earth are “aiming for the stars” this year, and with piano-pop as delightful as theirs, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be. Based in London, this “warm” and enticing group are soon to drop their new album Rising Sun into the world. Before its release, we spoke with the band about a fuller sound, cake eating habits, and glockenspiel.
AMBY: Hello The Fruitful Earth, welcome to our site! Please introduce yourselves to our readers.
The Fruitful Earth: Hello, pleased to meet you all! We’re a band playing the sweetest laid back rock n roll music with riff laden piano. Sarah sings and plays piano, Dave grooves hard on bass (he’s incredible) and Danny drives the band with his amazing drumming.
AMBY: How would you describe the overall vibe of the band in one word?
The Fruitful Earth: Warm.
AMBY: You soon release your brand-new album Rising Sun. What was the best moment you had during the writing or recording process?
The Fruitful Earth: Possibly finding a way of structuring the Coda of the final song ‘Love’. The drums had already been put down and I was trying to create an epic ending. I found the answer in the chordal backing vocals. It was a bit of a eureka moment.
AMBY: When it comes to the title, what is the significance behind Rising Sun?
The Fruitful Earth: It’s what the band shares with the audience. The light, the warmth. On another level it’s the hope behind everything.
AMBY: This album serves as a follow-up to your 2011 self-titled debut. How do you feel the band has evolved since its release?
The Fruitful Earth: This album is more consistent in terms of songwriting. The sound is warmer and fuller.
AMBY: Who would you like to be most and least stuck in an elevator with?
The Fruitful Earth: Most: Jack White Least: Parking Attendant
AMBY: Which bands or artists have you been listening to lately?
The Fruitful Earth: I’ve re-discovered The Incredible String Band & Mighty Baby’s a current favourite.
AMBY: What has you most excited for the rest of 2014?
The Fruitful Earth: Aiming for the stars with the band! Hey – who knows what might happen! : )
AMBY: Lastly, tell us something about The Fruitful Earth that nobody knows yet.
The Fruitful Earth: Dave’s cake eating habits are legend. Danny’s coke (coca cola guys!) habit is pretty ingrained and I’m crap at glockenspiel (ask Andy, the guy I recorded this album with!)
Thank you The Fruitful Earth, for giving us your answers!
