Haven’t had your fill of excellent alternative slacker-pop lately? Don’t worry, we have just the fix for you. Portland foursome Battleme dropped their new album Future Runs Magnetic on March 11th — an album that’s full of wailing guitars, thought provoking lyrics, and infectious pop tracks. To learn more about the record, we spoke with Battleme’s very own vocalist and guitarist Matt Drenik. Here’s what he had to say:

AMBY: Thanks for speaking with us today Battleme! What have you been up to lately?

Battleme: Touring.  Right now we’re in the middle of a 12 week run with The Toadies and Supersuckers.

AMBY: How would you describe each member of the band in one word?

Battleme: Chad – Coco, Pauli – Bud , JJ – Wapner

AMBY: Which three songs are the quintessential Battleme?

Battleme: Hmmm that’s tough.  Right now I’d have to say Wait For Me, Just Weight, Shotgun Song.

AMBY: You recently released your new album Future Runs Magnetic. What’s the significance behind the LP’s title?

Battleme: I wanted the title to represent something almost futuristic, yet rooted in the present.

AMBY: What was one of the best moments you had while recording the new album?

Battleme: Probably the one on one time with Doug Boehm.  He’s a great mind and we really bonded over these songs.  I have nothing but the utmost respect for his work as a producer and it was good to get to watch him as we rolled these songs into a singular vision.

AMBY: Which songs off the album are your personal favourites?

Battleme: Shotgun Song, Future Runs Magnetic, Just Weight.

AMBY: Does hailing from Portland have an influence on your sound? If so, how?

Battleme: Not really.  I feel pretty mobile, but I do like the freedom I feel towards making music in Portland.  People have been nothing but supportive and it’s been fairly enabling to be immersed in that environment.

AMBY: What was your first concert experience like? Did it have an impact on your music?

Battleme: Steve Miller Band!  Pretty generic.  I was 13 and all I remember was trying to get people to get me a beer.

AMBY: What has you most excited for the rest of 2014?

Battleme: Summertime in Portland.  Best place on earth.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Battleme that nobody knows yet?

Battleme: My old man played defensive back for Woody Hayes at Ohio State in the 60s.
