The group’s first track, “I Wanna Get Better,” is, hands down, one of the most infectious songs released so far in 2014, which should come as no surprise to those who have been following Antonoff since his time in Steel Train. Jack Antonoff has somewhat covertly been making waves in the music industry for the last decade or so. After cult success with indie group Steel Train, he’s scored a handful of award nominations for various collaborations and he even took home the Grammy for his part in penning the hit single We Are Young by the band ‘fun.’, for whom he played lead guitar.
We’ve been given a taste of Bleachers in the form of their debut single I Wanna Get Better. The track, for the most part, is very fast paced. The busyness of the verses actually create the perfect atmosphere. Almost as if the urgency in the song is used as a parallel to describe how bad the character in the song wants to get better. Personally, I think it’s used perfectly because helps the listener really understand Bleachers, and their up and coming new style. The chorus, is a redeemer; It’s hard to relax into the song, but the big hook brings it home. It’s one of those easy-to-love, anthemic vocals – another good fit for any summery playlist.
It shows too that there is probably plenty to look forward to with Bleachers’ forthcoming debut album – the enthusiasm is clearly there, and so are the credentials. Even with the release of this single, i think that we are all eagerly anticipating this debut.
