On Friday the 18th, Brooklyn indie rockers Bear Hands will play Toronto’s Echo Beach as part of the 2014 Edgefest Summer Concert Series. With the show quickly approaching and their latest album Distraction out August 11th in the UK, we caught up with the band to discuss album influences, their Summer Tour, and free beer.
AMBY: Welcome back to AMBY, it’s been a few months since we last spoke! How’s everyone doing?
Bear Hands: Swell, thanks.
AMBY: You released your latest album Distraction back in February. What’s the significance behind the album’s title?
Bear Hands: Album titles are insignificant, don’t worry about it.
AMBY: What influences can be found on the new album that might not be apparent to a listener?
Bear Hands: The Talking Heads, The Clash, Nirvana, The Wu-Tang Clan, Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon… you know, the greats.
AMBY: You’re currently on your 2014 Summer Tour. What have been some of the highlights?
Bear Hands: We’ve played some radio festivals that have been a lot of fun, set off some fireworks, seen some old friends, met some weirdos… I had an excellent burrito in Colorado Springs!
AMBY: Which songs off Distraction are your favourite to play live right now?
Bear Hands: Moment of Silence, Agora, Bone Digger.
AMBY: The band will soon play Toronto’s Edgefest. Describe your dream festival and who would be on the bill with you.
Bear Hands: Oh I don’t know. Something in the middle of nowhere with all my friends.
AMBY: If you could be a fly on the wall at any given time or event, where would you want to be?
Bear Hands: The session for Kind of Blue.
AMBY: Lastly, what’s the best part of being in Bear Hands?
Bear Hands: Free beer.
Thank you Bear Hands, for giving us your answers!
