Norwegian newcomer Anna of the North dazzles with a summer-ready flash of electronic dream-pop in the form of her debut single ‘Sway’ – the first release from new label Honeymoon, made available for download on June 24th. At the moment, very little is known about the Scandinavian singer – but immediately from first listen you’ll want to find out more.
Raised in Oslo under a “Melbourne sun”, the 25-year old has channeled this bipolar upbringing into an irresistibly indulgent track that could potentially be the musical representation of fire meeting ice. Picture the satisfaction of an ice cold drink on a hot summer afternoon – and transfer that concept to ‘Sway’.
There is no messing about with this track – it’s synth pop with a sharp melody, twinkling electronic sounds and wonderful vocals that intertwine exquisitely with one another. Possessing a few distinguishably similar electronic elements to the likes of M83 and Röyksopp, Anna has created a debut track that will inevitably provide high expectations for the future. And when it sounds this good, it’s easy to see why.
