Montreal rock and roll foursome The Damn Truth are “tearing up the Canadian roadways” on their current Canadian summer tour. To learn more about their electric rock and roll, we caught up with the band to discuss an upcoming album, the Himalayan country side, and more.
AMBY: Hey The Damn Truth, welcome to our site. What’s the band been up to lately?
The Damn Truth: We’re tearing up the Canadian roadways, having a blast meeting new folks and making new friends everyday.
AMBY: How would you describe each member of The Damn Truth in one word?
The Damn Truth: Tom – hallucinogenic, Lee-la – fireball, Dave – madman, David – eclectic
AMBY: You recently dropped a new single titled Get With You. What’s the story behind the track?
The Damn Truth: We put it out in the Spring after one of the tougher Montreal winters and I guess it’s just a fun song about making out and having a good time. Something to get your blood flowing. I guess it’s a little reminder that we should all be making love a little more!
AMBY: Where do you draw inspiration from when it comes to creating your electric rock and roll?
The Damn Truth: It’s impossible to pin down that one influence since the four of us really draw from different musical continents. We just write from the heart and connect with each other through our music in the jam space rather than attempt to concoct music for the sake of making music. We just play rock n roll and write music that triggers a sincere emotion in all four of us, even if that emotion is different for each of us.
AMBY: What’s next as far as recordings or releases go?
The Damn Truth: There are a few copies of “Get With You” out right now on a limited edition run of 7-inch vinyl. It’s a special little project we undertook as a band…we handmade this cool shiny packaging that’s been silkscreened and that you have to tear into to find our fancy vinyl. There’s a B-Side on there called “Trainwreck” too. When we get back to Montreal were going straight into the studio to record our next full-length album…we’re calling it “Devilish Folk”.
AMBY: Does being a Montreal-based band have an influence on your sound? If so, how?
The Damn Truth: Our sound comes from our roots, our loves, lusts and our synergy together. Montreal is our home and we love it but we’re technically a far cry from the sound of the indie music scene that Montreal is so famous for. The insane amount of talent here is definitely an influence though…the bar is set very high and it’s something we aspire to.
AMBY: If you could live a double life, describe it in a few sentences.
The Damn Truth: I’d be roaming the Himalayan country side stoned off my rocker, lost forever in a cloud of oblivion.
AMBY: What has you most excited for the rest of 2014?
The Damn Truth: Recording our new album and more touring…I’m a stage whore and nothing makes me happier than playing shows.
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about The Damn Truth that nobody knows yet?
The Damn Truth: Sometimes we moonlight as The Grinders.
Thank you The Damn Truth, for giving us your answers!
