Getting Cozy With: The Drake Hotel’s #HUSTLEHARD Music Works

Hey A Music Blog, Yea? readers!

My name is Rea McNamara and I am the assistant curator at The Drake Hotel in Toronto . Beyond the usual group exhibitions, residencies and public art commissions, I also curate limited-run event series, with a focus on projects that are often collaborative and community-focused. Bringing people together, reflecting local cultures, building bridges – these are the kinds of things I get really excited about, especially in an art context.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of inviting writer and music journalist Anupa Mistry to develop a party series focused on artists and networking. Both of us had our share of freelance struggles – whether it be figuring out what the next gig is, or worst, chasing after a client or editor for an outstanding invoice – and wanted to create a space where creatives could swap stories on the work/life balance, and maybe even meet their next collaborator, mentor or friend.

The series is called HUSTLEHARD. After doing two events earlier this summer focused on the literary and arts communities, we’re excited to be closing out the series with HUSTLEHARD: Music Works. Each event features a line-up of exciting guests who kick off our pop-up conversation starters – this month, we have Kieran Adams of Diana, Jasmyn Burke of WEAVES, Lido Pimienta and more. This will be the last one of the series, but it will be returning in the future.

The event is about creating connections and sparking interesting and helpful conversations. I really hope anyone interested can make it out; I can’t wait to meet you and talk music.
