With September finally here and beach days coming to an end, I bet many of you are finding your summer flings to be… well, let’s just say not as warm as they were when the season started. But don’t fret, give them the message by playing them The Griswolds’ single “Beware the Dog”, which is a strangely upbeat and enthusiastic song about a relationship gone awry.
The theme of the song is change, with the chorus bursting “We used to joke and it felt like gold/But now you’re fucking crazy/Crazy, crazy, crazy.” Even the song’s structure relays this message, with calm, rhythmic verses building up to a loud and catchy declaration of loathing during the chorus. The song features sing-along choruses and claps, making it the perfect anthem for both the heartbreakers and the heartbroken.
“Beware the Dog” is the Australian indie act’s biggest single and is featured on the band’s debut full-length Be Impressive, with a spot as #5 on the iTunes top albums chart when it was released. After a stint supporting indie-veterans Miniature Tigers earlier this summer, The Griswolds will be heading back home to the land down under for their album release tour, during which I’m sure they’ll continue being impressive.
