In a recent interview, A Music Blog, Yea? spoke with California new-wave/rock fivesome Night Riots to discuss an upcoming EP, exploring while on tour, proudest moments as a band, and being tattoo-less. Dive into the conversation, and be sure to stream their infectious single Contagious below!
AMBY: Hey Night Riots, thanks for speaking with us today — we’re all in love with your new single Contagious. What influences can be found on the single that might not be apparent to a listener?
Night Riots: Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. I think that Contagious is the start of an exciting era for Night Riots. For the first time we feel as if our influences are less noticeable which says to us that we are really beginning to master our craft and to develop our own sound. We spent a lot of time listening to a wide variety of genres of music for our latest batch of songs. We were influenced by everything from hip-hop to 90’s grunge to 80’s to modern pop and rock.
AMBY: What’s next in terms of releases? Is there an EP or record in the works?
Night Riots: We have a finished EP in the basket and we are working on content to release with the EP. As we finish this national tour with K.Flay we will be releasing some new content along with a few cool announcements about future music, etc..
AMBY: You’re currently on a North American Tour. What summer activities do you get up to while not up on stage?
Night Riots: We spend a lot of time reading, exercising, and exploring. We generally pull into a city in the early afternoon and spend the rest of the day until soundcheck wandering around and trying to get a feel for the culture of each city.
AMBY: If you could tour with any band, which would you choose?
Night Riots: Living or dead? I think INXS, U2, The Strokes, Arcade Fire… Queen. I think those would be some pretty insane tours.
AMBY: You’ve had praise from Rolling Stone and MTV and have opened for artists like Aerosmith and The Script. What’s your personal proudest achievement to date?
Night Riots: My personal proudest moment has probably been getting on a national tour and being able to play for hundreds of kids each night and riding in a bus.
AMBY: What would a movie based on the band be called?
Night Riots: The Lost Boys.
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Night Riots that nobody knows yet?
Night Riots: We are probably the only tattoo-less band in America. Not because we’re anti-tattoo… we all just have never gotten around to it or have commitment issues.
Thank you Night Riots, for giving us your answers!
