We recently chatted with the wonderful Amber Run before their Manchester show while on the New Faces Tour. Read our interview below as we discuss Taylor Swift, and upcoming album, jewelry, and gigging with Lewis Watson!
AMBY: Hey Amber Run! How are you?
Amber Run: Great thanks! How are you doing?
AMBY: I thought I’d tell you my Amber Run experience! I saw you supporting Kodaline as a band unknown to me, at Kendal Calling as an up and coming band and supporting the lovely Lewis Watson as one of my favourite bands. This year has been crazy for you right?
Amber Run: Amazing! So you’ve been with us every step of the way… It has been crazy, yeah – to think that those three occasions were little more than six months apart is absolutely insane, it really feels like we’ve grown up loads as a band since then.
AMBY: And now you are on the new faces tour with Fyfe, Kimberly Anne, and Pixel Fix. How’s it going for you?
Amber Run: The New Faces Tour has been incredible. Communion and XFM have been so good to us, so we can’t be grateful enough for opportunities like this. The other acts on the bill are top quality too, it really is great to be put alongside these guys on which I think is such a strong line up. Plus the reception we’ve got up and down the country has been truly humbling.
AMBY: Will you be doing a headline tour any time soon?
Amber Run: I think so, it’s tough to know when the time is right for an act like us, we seem to do individual headline slots now and then. We will be doing a few headline dates around our Dingwalls show (3rd Feb) to tie it all together. We cannot express how excited we are for that date, it’s by far our biggest headline show ever, should be amazing.
AMBY: And I guess that begs the question when will we hear an album?
Amber Run: Soon! We promise! Early next year, can’t say exactly when, but I can say we are so excited for people to hear what we’ve done.
AMBY: I have seen you play Manchester twice, do you agree that Manchester is a special place to play?
Amber Run: Definitely – the crowds are always really in to it, everyone is so passionate about live music, and that’s what we thrive on so it’s incredible for us. We used to have a Manchester curse where inevitably some of our gear would fuck up, but now we’re over that, it’s one of our favourite places to play.
AMBY: If you had to take credit for one song, what would it be and why?
Amber Run: Hugely dependent on who you ask. 22 by Taylor Swift is just so feel-good.
AMBY: I interviewed Lewis very recently and you very kindly commented on it! He spoke very highly of you, how was touring with him?
Amber Run: Lewis is one of the most genuine guys you’ll ever meet – we all got on so well with him from the off, and we are so grateful to him for having us on tour, it was one of the best few weeks we’ve ever had. His fans were really enthusiastic and receptive towards us too, which is extremely gratifying. I don’t wanna think about it too much, it actually makes me sad that it ended.
AMBY: What do you think of the recent Mercury prize, who did you want to win?
Amber Run: It’s always a great gauge of great music – we are all HUGE Bombay Bicycle Club fans so were all backing them, they certainly deserve it, So Long, See You Tomorrow is a masterpiece, but you never really know who’s going to win!
AMBY: If you could collaborate with one person who would it be? Dead or alive!
Amber Run: Is it not obvious that it would be Tay-Tay? Or Elvis, that’s more likely. On a serious note, either Jon Hopkins, or why not Hans Zimmer, let’s do some movie soundtracks.
AMBY: What piece of advice would you give to someone wanting to get into the industry?
Amber Run: Be persistent and get used to disappointment – don’t let it put you off. You’ve got to really want to do it, otherwise when things don’t come off the way you wanted, coupled with the inevitable negativity, will really test your resolve. But above all just fucking enjoy it – it’s music, it’s a dream and if it’s no fun you’re doing something wrong.
AMBY: Thanks so much for talking to us guys! Finally what’s something most fans don’t know about you yet?
Amber Run: It’s a pleasure, as always! Henry is laying the foundations for his career as a high-end jeweller later in life, he has a real passion precious stones and metals.
Thank you Amber Run, for giving us your answers!
