My name is Wade and I am from a band called The Written Years, based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. Within the band, I write the lyrics and compositions and my friend Kane helps come up with the arrangements and how we will present them. We also had our friend Kodie play lead guitar on our debut self-titled record and a ton of friends came in to help play bass and lend their backing vocals, including our friend Brian who is now with us full-time.
We tend to be dubbed as Winter Music, in part as a result of our own inability to describe what we’re trying to do and in part due to the press outlets that have helped us out. We do believe our music invokes those polarizing feelings of beauty and isolation that only come with a snow-covered ground and ice on the windshield. We listen to a lot singer-songwriter-influenced bands like Elliott Smith, The Weakerthans, Arcade Fire, Conor Oberst, Steve Earle, Jason Isbell etc. but also collectively draw from many punk or noise-flavoured bands, such as Moneen, Titus Andronicus, No Age, Deerhunter, Bloc Party, and Death From Above 1979. Might as well also throw The National and Radiohead in the mix for good measure.
As far as what we’re up to, at the beginning of 2014 we released our first album and since then have been playing shows around that and trying to push it independently as much as we possibly can. We recently released a video for the our song “It’s Not Your Fault” and released an extended single to back it, with the proceeds being donated toward fighting abuse & violence against women. In 2015, we plan to embark on some ambitious touring plans and continue working on our second-full length record. If you made it is far, thank you very much for taking the time to read and we hope you enjoy our record.
