Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ WE ARE TWIN

We Are Twin
Originally comprised of multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Balachandran and singer songwriter Gabi Christine, power pop group WE ARE TWIN recently returned as a Los Angeles-based four piece to release their debut album Xtra Love. In our recent interview, A Music Blog, Yea? spoke with the band to discuss creative freedom, The Hunger Games, and how Los Angeles is eye candy. Enjoy:

AMBY: Hey We Are Twin, welcome to our site! Please introduce yourselves to our readers.

WE ARE TWIN: Hey, WE ARE TWIN a four piece band living in L.A. Long story short, we are all from different places in the world and we formed our band in L.A. 2 years ago. The thing that we all had in common was our inspiration to create music the way we do. After playing few shows together we all knew that this is it what we all wanted to do.

AMBY: You recently released your new album Xtra Love, congratulations! What were some of the highlights you had while creating it?

WE ARE TWIN: The no.1 highlight was creating with complete creative freedom feeling that there were no limitations in sound or style. Making the record in L.A. was really inspiring being in such a vibrant city surrounded by so many other artists doing their thing.

AMBY: When it comes to the title, what’s the significance behind calling the record Xtra Love?

WE ARE TWIN: We felt like that “Xtra Love” was thematically the title track of the record. The song naturally stuck out to all of us and like everything else on this record. We just went with the flow and the initial inspiration.

AMBY: I saw a photograph on your Instagram with some amazing Los Angeles art. Does (currently) being based in LA and its surroundings have an influence on your music?

WE ARE TWIN: Yes, Yes and Yes!!! L.A. is eye candy in so many ways! There’s amazing street art everywhere. We do take creative breaks and just walk around to get inspired. Sometimes it feels like that we draw more inspiration in our music from visuals then from sounds. So being here in L.A. definitely influenced our sound.

AMBY: If you could choose to have your music featured in any movie or show, which would you choose?

WE ARE TWIN: Any movie with a crazy story line that takes you by surprise and you never can tell where the story will take you. Out of all the films currently out, “The Hunger Games” is a film that has many of the qualities that inspire us as song-writers.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about We Are Twin that nobody knows yet?

WE ARE TWIN: All of us at some point or another were told not to play music, but we never listened to that kind of nonsense. We just kept doing what we felt was right, which is making music. People often discourage you when your artistry/skill isn’t as developed as expected, but it’s crazy what practice does. We always write outside of our comfort zone. If we don’t struggle in the studio the music is safe and we don’t want to be safe.

Thank you WE ARE TWIN, for giving us your answers!
