I’m Tom Mitchell – a folky-type from Bristol in the UK. I’ve been a guitarist and backing vocalist for many singers and bands in the past, including Duffy and the Cadbury Sisters, but in 2013 I decided to start writing and performing my own material and I haven’t looked back.
My influences are essentially the bands and singers I used to have forced on me by my parents as I as growing up – music by the likes of Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler, Simon & Garfunkel, and Nick Drake has been ingrained in my very being for as long as I can remember and in more recent years I’ve been heavily inspired by Elliott Smith.
I’ve recorded three records so far but I’m most excited about my upcoming release ‘Stones’ which is due out on 2nd March 2015. It will feature guest appearances by the wonderful Bristol-based singer Sarah Proudfoot and the Australian uilleann piper Maynard Gold. I can’t wait to share it with the world.
I gig around the country as often as I can although things have been little quieter over the last year thanks to the arrival of my first child Neddy, who I’m training to be my drummer by the time he’s five. We’ll see though…
Hope you like what you hear, thanks for reading (and listening!)
