Los Angeles trio Mini Mansions have attracted large amounts of attention recently. Following a collaboration with some guy called Alex Turner on recent track ‘Vertigo’ as well as a surprise cameo with the Sheffield lad at their first London show in years, the bands uniquely subdued sythpop isn’t the only thing that’s grabbed our attention.
Unveiling track “Freakout!” from their new album ‘The Great Pretenders’ earlier this week, the stylishly sharp lads have produced something that’s pinged them once more on the radar. 2010’s self-titled effort may not have gathered the uproar it wished to create but with a little refinement and a new leash of creative flair ‘Freakout!’ appears to be the start of something good.
Wavering synth sounds and a big juicy chorus, “I’ve been down, I’ve been down, I’ve been down, I’ve been down”, keyboardist Tyler Parkford, Drummer and occasional guitarist Michael Shuman (current Queens of the Stone Age bassist) and Zach Dawes, have turned the heads of many with these singles.
For Mini Mansions it’s all about 2015. Supporting an unstoppable ‘Royal Blood’ on their UK tour dates; playing in the company of one of the most in demand bands of the moment will almost certainly force them to pull out something special. It seems like now’s the time for Mini Mansion to make their mark, and if ‘The Great Pretenders’ steps up to the spot there’s no telling what they will go onto from there.
