You’ve GOT to Hear This: Veludo Planes – “The Snows of Kilimanjaro”

With their debut single, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, Portsmouth rock band Veludo Planes are entering the indie scene with a slew of catchy guitar riffs and an addictive chorus reminiscent of early 90’s indie rock. Members Mike, Sam, Chris, and Ollie deliver a raw yet radio friendly sound. The Snows of Kilimanjaro starts off with a driving, echoing guitar riff by lead guitarist Sam that sets the energetic tone of the song, transitioning into a steady bass line by bassist Chris. I love the way that the band began the song fast paced, but slowed the pace for the chorus, and built it right back up again for that familiar, addictive guitar riff repeated throughout the track. Sam’s exert work on that repeated riff in combination with the notes plucked across the background of the verses in between choruses by rhythm guitarist mike, melts harmoniously with the steady supporting beat by drummer Ollie. The Snows of Kilimanjaro is a fresh twist on a classic roughed up indie style, familiar to fans of The Flaming Lips and The Verve. Take a look at the band’s Twitter for upcoming UK show dates, and hopefully soon American and Canadian dates so AMBY can do a live review!
